West Virginia Air National Guard
Burgess & Niple was retained by the West Virginia Air National Guard to coordinate removal of abandoned drums and to complete a subsurface investigation on property of the 130th Airlift Wing at Yeager Field in Charleston, West Virginia. The project was divided into two phases: Phase 1 Drum Disposal and Phase 2 Subsurface Investigation. The project involved direct coordination with the West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection (WV DEP). An initial site reconnaissance was performed to determine the number and condition of the drums and to conduct preliminary sampling of the soil near the drums. The drums and their contents were removed for disposal based upon preliminary screening. Visibly contaminated and odorous soil was also removed from the vicinity of the drums.
Following removal of the drums, confirmation soil sampling and analysis was conducted and following negotiations with WV DEP, a final summary report was prepared for submittal to the WV DEP and for WV ANG files.
