B&N conducted a preliminary roundabout feasibility evaluation for the intersection of US-41 and Carmalita Street in the City of Punta Gorda, Florida as a subconsultant to HNTB on a Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) District 1 professional services contract. B&N was tasked with assessing the geometric feasibility of placing a roundabout at the intersection as well as developing conceptual layouts that meet the design guidance and performance requirements defined in the FDOT Design Manual.

B&N conducted a thorough review and evaluation of data including:

  • Roadway plans
  • Existing survey
  • Right-of-way maps
  • Crash history
  • Site constraints and existing conditions including pedestrian accommodations, nearby properties, a railroad crossing, and potential utility and drainage impacts

Based on the study, B&N concluded that placing a roundabout at the intersection was feasible with minor right-of-way acquisition required at adjacent land parcels.
