Burgess & Niple (B&N) provided architectural and engineering services to Miami University for McKie Field’s design. Sports Management Group of Kansas City provided the schematic design. B&N was responsible for the architectural design and engineering, construction documents and construction administration.

The design of the new facility captured the ambiance of old-fashioned baseball. The context of the architecturally traditional campus was also respected. The new natural turf playing field is sand-capped to provide for underground drainage and irrigation. Dugouts, bullpens, indoor batting cages and storage areas for field maintenance equipment and practice equipment were developed around the perimeter of the baseball diamond.

Grandstands have bench-type seating, which accommodates 1,000 spectators with the capability to expand to 1,500 spectators. Seating for the disabled and their companions were also provided. The grandstand plaza houses spectator amenities, including ticket booths, concession sales and restrooms. A press box and an alumni VIP box are included in the facility. A picnic/special event area is along the right-field line.
