Since 2010, B&N has worked with the City of Duncanville as part of its Annual Sanitary Sewer Evaluation Survey (SSES) Program. B&N’s field crews have conducted smoke testing on sewer mains, manhole inspections and closed-circuit television (CCTV) inspections. Each year, these inspections aim to identify and address potential sewer system deficiencies, minimize inflow/infiltration (I/I) sources that impact plant operations and surcharge conditions and ensure optimal system performance.

  • In 2020, B&N inspected Basin WC and part of Basin EB for the City. B&N’s field crews smoke tested more than 156,000 linear feet (LF) of sewer mains over 485-line segments within the study area. Fifty-seven manholes and 32 mainline cleanouts were visually inspected for structural defects and potential sources of I/I.

  • In 2021, Basin WA was inspected. B&N’s field crew smoke tested 99,746 LF of sanitary sewer main. 356 manholes and 54 mainline cleanouts were also inspected for structural defects and potential sources of I/I.

  • In 2022, Basins DD, DA and TA were inspected. B&N’s field crew smoke tested 71,135 LF of sanitary sewer main. Eighteen access devices, 156 manholes and 11 mainline cleanouts were also inspected for structural defects and potential sources of I/I.

All data was collected electronically using Access Database and ArcGIS. Providing information digitally and in one location minimizes the risk of misinterpretation and makes it easier for the City to visualize and prioritize that data.

These annual inspections minimize the environmental impact to the City’s sewers and provides quality utilities to the community.
