Burgess & Niple (B&N) provided preliminary site development and engineering services as part of a build-to-suit project for a new DMV Customer Service Center in Chesapeake, Virginia. The new facility consists of an 8,080-square-foot building, approximately 125 parking spaces, a stacking lane at the drive-up window, a 40' x 100' test area, and on-site utilities.
General site requirements included high visibility of the travel patterns of the immediate and surrounding communities; safe and easy access to the site; close proximity to existing and future residential, commercial, and transportation growth areas; on-site availability of utilities; and land contour that provides easy access to parking and the single-story, freestanding building that serves as the customer center.
As site civil engineer, B&N was responsible for design of water distribution, sanitary sewer, and storm drainage systems, including a stormwater management pond with BMP; paving; erosion control and site clearing; excavation and site grading; topographic and boundary surveys; landscaping; and site improvements such as sidewalks and lighting. The site plan also included coordination of stormwater management and the county review process.
