Rocky River, Ohio
To accommodate a courtroom addition and enhance the community’s social/recreational opportunities, the city of Rocky River retained Burgess & Niple to design a building to incorporate relocation of a war memorial, offer enlarged community rooms, and provide a new indoor gymnasium. Design considerations included:
The 47,000-sf structure is directly adjacent to the ice rink, completely clear of a wooded area to the north, and slightly angled to a radial line from city hall. The L-shape floor plan offers separate facility entrances for recreation and community activities from a common entry courtyard. The city’s historic War Memorial is prominently positioned at the entrance to the community center.
Construction cost was $4.7 million. This project received a 2001 Outstanding Facility Award from the Ohio Parks and Recreation Association.
