Edwards Air Force Base, California
The Burgess & Niple (B&N)-designed high pressure water main at Edwards Air Force Base serves to protect their rocket engine test site with deluge fire protection. The new line measures 4 miles long and 14 inches in diameter and supports 410 p.s.i. of pressure.
Critical to the project’s success was maintaining pressure in the existing line during construction, where a surge in pressure of 100 p.s.i. could occur. Elevation differential of the new and existing line was over 700 feet.
The resulting line is made of steel pipe with welded joints, except for flanged valves.
B&N also provided construction services which included requests for information, shop drawing approvals, inspections, certification of compliance, and shop drawings.
