B&N ELECTS 21 ASSOCIATES

MIKE AKINS

Mike joined B&N in 2002 and is a Geologist in the firm’s Environmental Assessment & Remediation Section. Over the course of his 21-year career at B&N, he has provided on-site representation for construction projects, and completed tasks for Phase II Environmental Site Assessments, groundwater monitoring, and explosive gas monitoring, and is a technical expert on the Ohio Bureau of Underground Storage Tank Regulations program. Mike’s passion and meticulous approach to his work has made him a trusted advisor to his clients and excellent mentor to entry level staff. Mike is a Certified Professional Geologist and graduated from The Ohio State University with a Bachelor of Science in Geology.

MICHELLE CASALE

Michelle is the Regional Marketing Manager for B&N’s Southeast Region with more than 15 years of industry experience. Since joining the firm in 2020, she has collaborated on numerous pursuits and promotions, and elevated thought leaders within the region. She has also educated technical staff on best practices for pursuit messaging and strategies, managing over $25 million in new contract value for Southeast region pursuits over the last 12 months. Michelle supports growth of the safety, utility infrastructure, transportation, and stormwater services within the Southeast Region and beyond. Corporately, Michelle is a strategic partner in the development and implementation of the companywide CRM solution. Michelle graduated from the University of Central Florida with a Bachelor of Science in Marketing.

COLLEEN CONRAD, PE

Colleen is a Senior Electrical Engineer in B&N’s Norfolk office where she currently leads the electrical engineering team. Her technical expertise includes electrical service and power distribution, lighting design and lighting controls with a focus on solar design and lighting upgrades to achieve Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification. Her ability to foresee and implement innovative solutions has led to new business opportunities, particularly in areas of sustainability and energy performance contracting. Colleen attended Old Dominion University where she earned a Bachelor of Science and Master of Science in Electrical Engineering.

SHAUN FILMORE, PE

Shaun joined B&N in 2015 and is a Project Manager in the Bridge Inspection Section, managing multi-million-dollar inspection contracts and leading many of the firm’s inspection projects for the Oklahoma Department of Transportation. Over the past eight years, he has participated in more than 500 bridge inspections in a total of nine states. In addition, he helped establish the firm’s Oklahoma City office and has worked diligently to grow B&N’s client base in the state of Oklahoma. His efforts have helped to secure new contracts for ancillary structure inspections, on-call traffic services and bridge rehabilitation and design. Shaun graduated from Ohio University with a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering.

ERIN GRUSHON, AICP

Erin joined B&N in 2019 and is an AICP-certified planner with 13 years of experience in transportation planning and stakeholder engagement. She has developed systemwide plans for local, regional, and state clients, balancing competing priorities and efficiently managing resources. Her expertise in stakeholder and public engagement allows her to build targeted strategies and facilitate productive public meetings and workshops. Erin excels at communicating complex concepts in an accessible way, engaging the community, and fostering consensus in the planning process. Her expertise and successful management of large Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) projects has been instrumental in expanding the firm’s Transportation Planning practice. Erin has a Bachelor of Arts in English from The Ohio State University and a Master of Urban and Regional Planning from Portland State University.

NICK HALL, PE, RSP

Nick joined B&N in 2021 and is currently a Project Manager in the Flagstaff office. He has a decade of experience that includes roadway design, accessible pedestrian facility design, traffic analysis, pavement evaluation, construction management and stakeholder engagement. Drawing from his previous roles as an engineering contractor in Arizona for Yavapai County and Assistant County Engineer for Coconino County, Nick provides our clients with unique perspectives on constructability that improve deliverables. He has a Bachelor of Science in Engineering from Arizona State University, a Master of Science in Public Administration from Northern Arizona University, is an APWA statewide board member and Northern Arizona chapter president and participates in the ACEC Roads and Streets Conference steering committee.

ROB HRUSOVSKY, PE

Rob started with B&N as a co-op in 2007 and has become an integral part of the Great Lakes Water Group over the last 16 years. He excels at field inspections, including large diameter pipe, tank, and basin condition assessments, and serves as one of the firm’s primary resources for elevated water tank inspections. In addition, Rob has provided design, bidding and construction services on wastewater collection and treatment projects. Adept at both technical design and building client relationships, Rob also helps manage, develop, and train co-ops and entry level staff. Rob attended Cleveland State University where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering.

JOHNNA KECK

Johnna is a Systems Analyst in B&N’s Management Information Systems (MIS) Section. For more than 20 years, she has helped develop and implement new internal applications for the firm’s employee, project, and accounting systems that are easy to use and require minimal onboarding. Johnna has spent years partnering with internal teams, specifically accounting and human resources. She has developed a strong understanding of their needs and operations to help develop numerous solutions that can be found within our BNConnect and MyConnect intranet platforms. In addition to managing multiple projects, Johnna also mentors MIS team members who are newer to the firm and team. She attended Mount Union College where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Information Systems.

MATT KROLL, EI, PACP 

Matt joined B&N in 2008 and is one of the Great Lakes Region’s primary process engineers for water and wastewater treatment, providing a high level of service on some of the firm’s largest and most complex treatment projects. Over the course of his 15-year career with B&N, Matt has been involved in the study, design and construction of water and wastewater treatment systems, collections systems, and water distribution projects. In addition to his technical expertise, Matt excels at mentoring and training of less experienced staff, accelerating their growth, development, and ability to contribute at a higher level. Matt earned a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering from the University of Toledo.

DIANA MITCHEN, PE

Diana joined B&N’s Louisville Transportation Section in 2022 as a Project Manager. With a focus on roadway and multi-modal design, her 16 years of industry experience includes the design of interstates, bypasses, intersection improvements, urban roadways, and trails, both leading and managing projects from feasibility analysis through construction. Diana has quickly become one of the primary project managers in the Louisville office. She has developed strong relationships with key clients, created impactful approaches for winning pursuits and has been an integral part of the search for and design of new office space B&N’s Louisville team. Diana earned a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from the University of Kentucky.

TERRY MULLINS, ACBA

Terry has been with B&N since 1986 and currently serves as a Business Analyst in the Information Technology (IT) Division. Over the years, he has held many roles, including drafter and CADD support specialist. Currently, Terry is part of B&N’s Technology Team that works with stakeholders and engineering staff to understand, utilize, and implement new technologies. This includes virtual and augmented reality, point cloud and 3D modeling, 3D printing, and immersive inspection techniques. Terry works to make these new technologies scalable so that they can be applied and utilized across the firm. He also acts as a liaison between disciplinary areas, making connections with examples of how staff can apply technology to solve problems.

DAM NGUYEN

Dam has over 17 years of experience in the transportation field and joined B&N’s Tampa office in 2020 as a Technical Project Manager in the Roadway Section. He has a strong background in Design-Build transportation projects and plays a key role in building a foundation for B&N’s Design-Build practice in the state of Florida. Dam is passionate about his work, excels at project management, building client relationships and team collaboration. His expertise ranges from virtual weight stations to multi-level complex interchanges, roadway geometric design, plans production and temporary traffic control planning. Dam attended the University of South Florida where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering.

MIKE ROBISON, JR., PE

Since 2007, Mike has served as a transportation project engineer, deputy project manager and project manager in our Louisville office. His versatile project experience includes multiple interstate widenings, interchange reconstruction, urban and rural roadway reconstruction, and bridge replacement projects. He has also led project design review as the technical lead for several projects for the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC). Mike has specialized training and expertise with InRoads Digital Terrain Modeling software. He is an active member with the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) and the American Society of Highway Engineers (ASHE) and earned a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Science in Engineering from the University of Louisville.

KATHRIN STILES, PHR, SHRM-CP

Kathrin joined B&N in 2016 and is a HR Generalist III with 20 years of experience. In this position she manages a wide range of tasks that include recruitment, onboarding, and candidate experience and takes an active part in the firm’s culture-shaping and Diversity, Equity and Inclusion initiatives. In addition, she leads the firm’s health and wellness program, which includes an annual companywide health and wellness related challenge, and educational articles and materials for employees. Kathrin is a Certified Human Resources Professional (SHRM-CP), Professional in Human Resources (PHR), Certified Diversity Recruiter and has Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and a Master of Labor and Human Resources from The Ohio State University.

DANIEL SOROKA, PE

Danny joined B&N in 2016 and is a project engineer in the Columbus Roadway Design Section. His big picture understanding of constructability along with traffic, structural, and environmental disciplines results in well-rounded alternatives that consider all aspects of a project. He is adept at managing projects with large teams and complex technical designs and develops implementable solutions by right sizing projects while still addressing the purpose and need. His strong understanding of the latest technology available for roadway design, such as OpenRoads, ConceptStation and Microstation, allows him to efficiently develop plan sets and 3D models that accurately portray design improvements. Danny attended The Ohio State University where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering.

MICHAEL SPIELBERG, PE

Mike has been a member of B&N’s Collection and Distribution Section for 25 years. He is a creative problem solver who develops innovative solutions to complex project challenges and uses the latest technology to improve processes for increased efficiency. Throughout his career, Mike has worked with numerous Ohio cities on Capital Improvement Projects that include the design and review of stormwater master plans, I/I studies, storm and sanitary capacity analyses, design and plan preparation of sewer improvements and green infrastructure design evaluations. He works to implement solutions that combine gray and green infrastructure where possible to save money while meeting clients’ project goals. Mike attended The Ohio State University where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering.

ROB SPROTT

Rob is B&N’s IT Infrastructure Manager and has been with the firm since 2001. Over the course of his career, he has designed and implemented many advancements to B&N’s technology capabilities, most notably the firm’s Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI). He also has been involved with technology related to recent office moves and plans for the cloud migration of data. Rob excels at managing client relationships, improving work processes, and understanding the importance of our IT infrastructure in the context of our business, working with engineering and support staff to meet their needs. And as technology evolves, Rob works to adjust our approach and continue to provide services that allow us to run the business as well as create products and services for our clients. Rob has a Bachelor of Science from Wright State University.

DICK THOMAS

Dick joined B&N in 2011 and is currently a member of the Great Lakes Region Water Section. He is a regional leader in Capacity, Management, Operation and Maintenance (CMOM) programs, sewer cleaning and condition assessment while developing his skillset in trenchless rehabilitation technologies. His recent experience includes implementing tasks for the Akron CMOM program such as contractor coordination, coordination with City staff, inspection video review, flow meter installation and sampling. A geologist by trade, Dick also assists B&N’s Environmental Division as needed with various field tasks. Dick earned a Bachelor of Science in Geology from Kent State University.

DAVID VAN ATTA, PE

David has a decade of experience working in bridge design that includes over 100 bridges and other various structures in Idaho, Oregon, Washington, and California. He joined B&N in 2021 and leads bridge design and bridge business development in the Boise office. David has served as lead designer and project manager on bridge and hydraulics projects, ranging from culvert rehabilitations to larger structures. His recent business development efforts have increased bridge project wins in Idaho and helped put B&N on the map as bridge experts within the state. David graduated from California State University with a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering.

JEREMY VANVLEET, PE

Jeremy joined B&N’s Indianapolis Support Section in 2022 and has 21 years of experience in a range of traffic engineering roles including capacity analysis and traffic safety. Prior to joining B&N, he served as Lead Traffic Engineer for the Indiana Department of Transportation’s (INDOT) most complex projects ranging from major interstate expansion to improvements on heavily traveled arterials. He collaborated on the development of INDOT’s intersection Traffic Analysis Procedures document and Intersection Design Guide as INDOT’s subject matter expert on alternative intersection analysis. At B&N, his expertise has led to several key project wins in Indiana and Oklahoma while contributing his technical expertise to projects across multiple B&N offices. Jeremy graduated from Trine University where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering.

DAVID WOLFE

David is B&N’s Director of Physical Facilities and has been with the firm for 38 years. In this role, he oversees a wide range of services companywide, including B&N’s office relocations and furnishings, management and maintenance of the firm’s vehicle fleet, office equipment, field and safety supplies, printing and reproduction services, and shipping and receiving. David has been instrumental in the firm’s 17 office rebrands and furniture remodels since 2020, including the recent corporate headquarters move to downtown Columbus. He has a budget conscious approach to purchasing equipment and supplies and during the pandemic, he reimagined how to manage office print and mailing services for all locations.
