Burgess & Niple (B&N) provided design services for the $3.2 million replacement of a twin continuous reinforced concrete slab bridge on SR 49. Awarded in September 2023, construction took place throughout the 2024 season under phased traffic control to maintain one lane in each direction.
The three-span structure presented challenges due to fluctuating water levels in Coffee Creek. Dewatering was required to complete slope wall repairs and riprap work needed to restore the adjacent wildlife crossing. The project also included new concrete bridge railings and transitions, sleeper slabs and hot mix asphalt (HMA) terminal joints.
Despite the complex site conditions, the project was completed in fall 2024, more than a year ahead of the original November 2025 completion date.
