Nestled within the Cuyahoga Valley National Park, the Village of Peninsula, Ohio, faced a long-standing challenge: aging septic systems were threatening the health of the Cuyahoga River and the surrounding environment. B&N led the planning, design and permitting of a new water reclamation facility and sanitary sewer system, carefully balancing modern engineering with the village’s historic and natural character. Through close coordination with local leaders, residents and more than ten regulatory agencies, the team delivered a solution that protects public health and preserves the park’s integrity.
The project included over 16,000 feet of new sewer lines and a 130,000 gallons per day (GPD) water reclamation facility designed with odor control, sound attenuation and energy-efficient systems. Environmental and geotechnical studies ensured minimal disturbance to the adjacent National Park property, while public engagement efforts kept the community informed and involved. Completed under an accelerated schedule to meet funding milestones, the project reflects B&N’s commitment to thoughtful, community-driven design in even the most complex and protected settings.
