When the City of Monroe set out to expand its public service capabilities and streamline long-term maintenance operations, B&N and KZF decided to join forces and utilize the B&N/KZF Joint Venture to support the development of a new Public Works Maintenance Facility. This investment equips the city with a modern, flexible space designed to improve staff workflows, strengthen material and asset management and serve the community for decades.

A Purpose-Built Facility Centered on Efficiency and Community Needs

Located on a 15-acre portion of a larger 110-acre municipal-owned property, the new campus includes an administrative building and an attached heated garage totaling more than 100,000 square feet. Much of this space is dedicated to equipment storage and workshops. The remaining administrative area provides offices, conference rooms and training spaces that support both daily operations and staff development.

Designed as a dual-purpose environment, the building accommodates staff needs while offering a welcoming, public-facing entry for community interactions, meetings or future civic use.

Integrated Site Design to Strengthen Year-Round Operations

The surrounding site enhances the city’s ability to manage materials and support winter maintenance. Key features include:

  • A 10,000-square-foot salt barn with a 5,000-ton storage capacity
  • Bulk material storage
  • A 6,000-square-foot brine production area
  • A 6,000-square-foot sand filter drying bed
  • A one-acre laydown area for bulk storage
  • Dedicated parking for staff and visitors

These components create an efficient, organized system that supports reliable service across all seasons.

Building for Future Growth

With construction underway and completion expected in summer 2027, the facility provides the City of Monroe with space to expand services over time while improving daily performance, safety and community accessibility.
