Helping London Plan for Growth with Reliable Wastewater Infrastructure

As the City of London and the Mid-Ohio Water and Sewer District prepared for long-term community growth, their existing wastewater collection system required expanded capacity and improved reliability. The District engaged B&N to plan and design the East Side Trunk Sewer and Spring Valley Pump Station improvements, a project that strengthens the community’s ability to manage future flow demands and support continued development.

Understanding Infrastructure Needs to Guide Smart Expansion

The project includes approximately 20,000 linear feet of new sanitary sewer, a new pump station and upgrades to an existing facility. To shape an efficient and buildable design, B&N completed a comprehensive field investigation program. This included topographic and utility surveys, property research and geotechnical exploration to define existing conditions and identify constraints.

Hydraulic modeling and surge analysis were used to evaluate potential alignments and verify system performance under a range of flow scenarios. The team developed a Preliminary Design Report that compared alternatives, addressed utility conflicts and recommended cost-effective solutions that support long-term operational reliability.

Using Technology and Environmental Care to Improve Design Accuracy

Throughout the effort, environmental stewardship remained a core focus. B&N prepared a Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan and managed permit coordination with the Ohio EPA and ODOT to maintain compliance. Innovative design tools enhanced the team’s approach, including drone-based data capture and 3D scanning to refine alignments and increase design accuracy.

Building a System that Supports Community Growth

The upgraded East Side Trunk Sewer and Pump Station system will expand the District’s conveyance capacity, improve service reliability and better position the City of London for sustainable growth. Through thorough planning, advanced technology and close collaboration with community partners, B&N is helping build wastewater infrastructure that will serve residents well into the future.
