As roundabouts have become more popular in Ohio, the number of agencies constructing and maintaining them is growing, and several agencies have accumulated years of experience building, maintaining and observing roundabouts in their system. This panel discussion will include two features: a brief presentation of a newly developed roundabout reference packet from Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) District 3 and a panel discussion featuring expert representatives from a variety of roundabout owners in the state.

The presentation, led by Kenny Knapp (ODOT District 3) and Carl Ruf (Strand Associates, Inc.®), will discuss the evolution of roundabout design preferences in District 3 and how those preferences culminated with the development of the Roundabout Reference Packet, a reference document for designers in District 3 that covers items such as approach geometry, curbing, concrete color, landscaping, pavement markings, signing and more.

The panel discussion will include representatives from ODOT, county engineers and cities within Ohio who have many years of roundabout construction and maintenance experience. The discussion will focus on design preferences of each representative agency and how their experience has led them to particular design decisions.

The panel will include Kenny Knapp, Matt Loeffler (Butler County), Paul Hammersmith (City of Dublin) and Paul Pickett (City of Green). The discussion will be moderated by Carl Ruf and Mike Taricska.
