This presentation will discuss the shift of RIC to prioritizing the traffic safety needs of non-motorists, including cyclists, pedestrians, and individuals with disabilities during road safety assessments. Speakers will provide insights into planning, funding and spatial analytics. Additionally, they will discuss the next steps for the Regional Intergovernmental Council Metropolitan Planning Organization (RIC MPO) in highlighting strategies for integrating the safety requirements of vulnerable road users into the vision of zero traffic fatalities and serious injuries. This presentation will feature a deep dive into the technical safety engineering aspects and their relationship to the transportation planning context.
Attendees will gain valuable insights into innovative approaches and best practices for creating safer and more accessible roadways for all. Sam Richardson from the RIC MPO will co-present the topics of discussion.

This presentation will discuss the Complete Streets planning and prioritization process developed for the KYOVA Interstate Planning Commission. Attendees will learn what a Complete Streets Policy is, why it is important, and what steps to take to develop a policy. Presenters will discuss creating a comprehensive geodatabase for KYOVA, which encompasses all proposed Complete Streets projects and analysis information, ensuring streamlined access and organization of critical data.
Presenters will also discuss the evaluation system to rank complete streets projects, facilitating data-driven decision-making and maximizing project prioritization. This presentation will include a demonstration of an online interactive tool that was developed for stakeholders to view proposed active transportation projects from their specified study area.
