B&N assisted the City of Columbus, Ohio with a condition assessment of a critical, uneasily accessible large diameter sewer consisting of 200 manholes, 98,100 LF and up to 156” in diameter. We will discuss how B&N completed inspection and condition assessment and identified assets in need of repair. Managing this system came with many unique challenges. This presentation will cover how the large diameter sewer size, length of runs, access issues, coordination with homeowners, City departments and bolt down manholes all demanded creative applications of assessment, data capture and technology.

In a sewer collection system, Artificial Intelligence (AI) makes condition assessment more efficient by increasing data accuracy and reducing the time spent collecting and evaluating data. AI will not replace the human element but rather supplement it by handling routine tasks to produce reliable data for critical decision making. B&N has created a NASSCO PACP-compliant sewer AI that can be used in small- to moderately-sized pipes of any material to identify defects successfully.
