On Ohio University's campus in Athens, Ohio, traffic on Richland Avenue would back up each time classes changed when students used an at-grade crosswalk.  This presentation will cover the design solution process, from a feasibility study through the opening of a pedestrian passageway beneath Richland Avenue, highlighting public involvement, the multi-disciplined design, and the unexpected design challenges.

Join us for a case study focused on the preservation and rehabilitation of the Lowell Bridge in Washington County, Ohio. The Lowell Bridge is one of the main access points for Village residents. Originally designed with a unique T-configuration, due to location / site, over time the structure experienced significant structural deficiencies including cracking of a main pier cap, leaking joints, locked up pin and hangers, and advanced corrosion. This presentation will include the process to arrive at the cost-effective solutions chosen to reinforce and rehabilitate the structure for long term viability.
