Burgess & Niple (B&N) assisted the North Texas Municipal Water District (NTMWD) and member cities served by the South Mesquite Regional Wastewater Treatment Plant with building the first wastewater hydraulic model for the system. Due to extended periods of wet weather during flow monitoring, the application of an appropriate design storm to reflect system infiltration and inflow (I&I) and right-sizing infrastructure was the key to the project’s success.

This presentation will include the results of the extensive storm analysis performed, evaluating system response in modeled results due to storm intensity/duration and volume, to arrive at the selection of the applied design storm and ultimately the right-sized projected system needs for this rapidly growing region of Texas.
