Session 11: Regional and Project Planning – Leveraging Innovative Strategies and Public Involvement

Since 1990, Delaware County, Ohio has been one of the fastest growing counties in the United States. This population growth has pushed the existing roadway network to its limits. With few direct connections to Columbus’ interstate highway system, local governments determined that a new highway was a top priority. However, constructing a major thoroughfare in southern Delaware County is expensive and challenging due to the area’s residential and agricultural nature.

Join us to learn how the $46 million Sawmill Parkway Extension will relieve current traffic congestion and position this area to support future traffic and residential growth. B&N’s Jeff Griffin and Brian Moore, and Delaware County Engineer Chris Bauserman, will discuss:

  • The history of the project, including the extensive stakeholder and public involvement process
  • How design challenges were met with innovative and unique solutions
  • The steps taken to make this highway an attractive addition that improves the quality of life and provides a complete system solution for residents in southern Delaware County

Session 79: Tracking the Elusive NEPA Commitment

Join B&N’s Kevin Hutchens for a presentation that will examine nontraditional stormwater BMP approaches for transportation projects. Citing two Ohio case studies, attendees will learn about the pros and cons of integrating nontraditional approaches, the relative cost compared to traditional BMP methods, and how to apply them to all levels of state, city and county projects.

Kevin will discuss the nontraditional BMP approaches used for the City of Green’s Massillon Road project and the City of Powell’s East Powell Road project.
