Burgess & Niple is seeking a Senior Design Mechanical Engineer in our Roanoke area of Virginia.  We are looking for an individual who can utilize their technical expertise and analytical problem-solving to lead and complete complex engineering projects.

B&N Senior Design Mechanical Engineer Responsibilities:

  • Providing leadership to and mentoring less experienced staff and working with the MEP Engineering Section Director to plan, manage, execute and deliver engineering projects on-time, on budget and to the expectations of client stakeholders. 
  • Assist with developing scope of work and budgets for various project types. 
  • Provide formal training sessions on engineering concepts to B&N staff and select clients.
  • Provide engineering analysis of mechanical engineering design, including conceptual studies, program requirements, design analysis, calculations, equipment selection and layout for building design.
  • Provide QA/QC technical reviews of B&N engineering projects.
  • Develop sequence of operations and specifications for direct digital controls.
  • Coordinate with B&N marketing staff to assist with technical marketing efforts.
  • Coordinate studies, reports and design efforts with team members.
  • Provide construction administration support for site visits, answering RFIs and reviewing shop drawings. 

Skills & Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET accredited program
  • 15+ years of experience
  • P.E. License
  • Knowledge of IMC, IECC, ASHRAE 90.1 and similar technical standards. Experience with HVAC software tools such as Trane Trace 700 or Carrier HAP
  • Solid technical background in HVAC and mechanical engineering design
  • Excellent written & verbal communication skills
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
