Burgess & Niple is currently seeking a Civil Designer to join our multi-discipline engineering consulting firm in Norfolk or Richmond office. This position is an exciting opportunity for a motivated individual to join our local team and utilize their design and technical expertise on interesting and challenging projects.

B&N Civil Designer Responsibilities:

• Support design efforts of challenging site, subdivision, and water/wastewater projects, utilizing standard software such as Civil 3D and REVIT. Typical projects include public and private site development, water transmission mains, sanitary sewers, wastewater force mains, and wastewater pump stations
• Develop site plan sets for review by authorities having jurisdiction. Typical plans include demolition plans, erosion and sediment control plans, site plans, utility plans, profiles, and detail sheets
• Prepare project specifications through research of industry, federal, state, regional, and municipal codes and publications
• Site assessments, including zoning research and code requirements, available utilities, GIS research and site constraints
• Prepare reports and narratives for use in the completion of design and construction documents
• Prepare construction cost estimates using local and industry standard pricing guides.
• Perform site visits for project orientation and construction observation 
• Communicate with the design team, client, plan reviewers and permitting authorities 
• Prepare permit applications and supporting documents

Skills and Qualifications:

• High School Diploma or equivalent (GED)
• 5+ years design experience in site/utility/civil engineering 
• Proficient with AutoCAD Civil 3D
• Desire and ability to work in a group setting and to mentor junior staff members 
• Strong communication skills, attention to detail, and organizational skills
