Burgess & Niple is looking for an experienced Senior Structural Engineer to join our fast-paced, dynamic team in Painesville, OH leading vertical structural design of buildings and water/wastewater treatment facilities from preliminary design through construction.

What you can expect as the major duties and responsibilities:

  • Lead vertical structural design project teams working with architects, engineers and scientists throughout the firm.
  • Prepare design calculations, drawings, specifications, design analysis and construction cost estimates.
  • Perform construction related services including shop drawing reviews, response to requests for information, perform periodic site visits to observe construction, and perform structural inspections, as needed.
  • Manage structural portion of project budgets.
  • Direct CAD technicians and designers in the production of CAD drawings and BIM models.
  • Coordinate with, train/coach and guide junior design staff in developing and delivering structural design projects.

You may be a good fit if you have these skills and qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering from an ABET accredited engineering program
  • PE registration in Ohio required, SE registration is a plus
  • 10 or more years of related structural and component (masonry, concrete, steel and timber) design experience of building and treatment plant facilities
  • Experience with Microsoft Office in addition to in-depth knowledge of RAMSteel and STAAD design software required; Knowledge of MathCAD, enercalc or other structural design software is a plus
  • Knowledge of U.S. Department of Defense Unified Facilities Criteria documents, progressive collapse, AT/FP and blast design is desired
  • Strong interpersonal communication and thorough design documentation and detailing skills
  • Self-motivated and adaptable, including the capability to learn virtual collaboration tools.
  • Ability to work remotely based on business operations and the needs of the firm.
