Come work with senior-level professionals at an established A/E firm that values employee input and collaboration. Burgess & Niple is looking for an entry level Transportation Engineer to join our team in Phoenix.

B&N Transportation Engineer Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the design and development of roadways, urban corridor, and multimodal improvement projects, including new alignments, roadway widening, intersection upgrades, turn lane additions, and urban streetscape enhancements
  • Participate in scoping and design concept reports, supporting project planning, alternatives analysis, and documentation for stakeholder review
  • Perform engineering calculations, geometric design, and technical analysis for horizontal and vertical alignments and general roadway features
  • Prepare construction plans, specifications, and cost estimates in compliance with applicable codes and standards
  • Support the completion of transportation studies, and develop clear technical reports and project documentation
  • Maintain quality control on work products and contribute to timely, on-budget project delivery
  • Foster a positive work environment through effective internal and external communication during project execution
  • Build relationships with clients, agency staff, and community stakeholders while supporting the development of innovative transportation solutions

Skills & Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from an ABET-accredited program
  • Engineer Intern (EI) or Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification, or ability to obtain within 6 months.
  • 0–2 years of relevant roadway design experience
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; eager to collaborate, learn, and grow within a team environment
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suites required (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Teams)
  • Proficiency or interest in learning PDF markup/review tools, such as BlueBeam Revu or Adobe Acrobat
  • Prior knowledge of and experience in CAD design software preferred (AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Microstation, or OpenRoads Designer)
  • Motivated, adaptable, and able to work with virtual collaboration tools and technology platforms supporting remote project work
