Burgess & Niple is seeking a Mechanical Engineer (HVAC & Plumbing) in our Norfolk, VA office to be a part of our national team. As a full-service Engineering and Architectural firm, this individual will have the unique opportunity to work with and support our company market areas – architecture, utility infrastructure, industrial, environmental, and land development, across the country. This is an exciting opportunity for an individual who has a desire and capacity to learn and is interested in working on diverse project types under the leadership of eager technical mentors.  

B&N Mechanical Engineer Responsibilities:

  • Work under the supervision of Senior level engineers and Project Managers to perform routine assignments which are clearly defined and require the application of standard design engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria
  • Provide design and drafting support in producing deliverables, contract documents, design calculations and analysis, and assisting lead mechanical engineers in a team environment
  • Perform technical writing and cost estimates for studies and reports. Perform HVAC load calculations and energy modeling calculations
  • Perform site visits to obtain field dimensions and other relevant project data.
  • Provide design of mechanical building systems including air and hydronic distribution systems, and DDC control systems.
  • Provide design of building plumbing systems including water, waste, vent, and domestic hot water systems.
  • Proactive coordination and communication with multi-disciplinary design team.
  • Evaluation and application of jurisdictional codes and standards.
  • Adherence to B&N QA/QC guidelines and procedures

Skills & Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering technology or equivalent from an ABET accredited program
  • 3+ years of experience
  • Excellent written & verbal communication skills
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Possess an outgoing and positive attitude
  • Be dependable and meet all assigned project deadlines
  • Must be a proficient user of Revit, Trace 700, Bluebeam, and Microsoft Office
