Collaborate with industry leaders, learn from experienced roadway design engineers, and work as part of a project team on roadway design and rehabilitation projects for local and state transportation clients. Burgess & Niple is looking for a Roadway Engineer to join our team in Columbus.

B&N Roadway Engineer Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with Professional Engineers and design staff on projects designing maintenance and rehabilitation solutions for clients, Safe Routes to School facilities, signalized intersections and roundabouts, interchanges, and preliminary studies for corridors, trails, and urban roadway alternatives
  • Develop roadway design layouts, models, plan sheets, cost estimates, and exhibits
  • Assist with preliminary plan creation, geometric design for projects ranging from maintenance and rehabilitation efforts to complex urban and freeway design, drainage design
  • Coordinate with other engineering disciplines such as traffic, structures, lighting, and utilities
  • Interact with clients, governing agencies and the public

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science degree from an ABET accredited civil engineering program
  • EI or EIT registration
  • 1-3 years of related experience developing roadway / drainage design and plan preparation effort for highway construction plans for ODOT and local governments
  • Knowledge of ODOT standards and design practices
  • Experience leading design tasks or serving as roadway design lead a plus
  • Interest in leveraging technology to support marketing efforts and identifying opportunities to streamline plan development efforts with technology is a plus
  • Excellent communication skills and willingness to collaborate
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office required
  • Microstation/OpenRoads Required
  • OpenRoads Drainage and AutoCAD are a plus
  • Self-motivated and adaptable, including the capability to learn virtual collaboration tools
