COLUMBUS, Ohio - Burgess & Niple, Inc., recently announced the election of 3 owners and 8 associates to the firm effective January 1, 2005.
OWNERS
Bernie Bouman, PE, was elected an owner of the firm. Bouman, who joined Burgess & Niple in 1979, serves as Director of the Columbus Water Resources Group. His experience includes project management and design of water and wastewater treatment plants, water booster stations, sanitary and storm sewers, water mains, bikeways and urban roadways.
A registered professional engineer (PE), Bouman earned a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from Ohio University.
Patricia Forster, was elected an owner of the firm. Forster, who joined Burgess & Niple in 1985, serves as Director of Human Resources. She is responsible for Burgess & Niple’s human resources and in-house training programs. She has designed and implemented B&N’s leadership, coaching skills and performance management programs. Her experience includes human resource management, consulting to a national corporation on management development for women, and career counseling.
Mark Willis,PE, was elected an owner of the firm. Willis, who joined Burgess & Niple in 1990, serves as Director of the Lexington office, responsible for all projects completed in the state of Kentucky. He has managed and designed projects ranging from small water availability studies to major utility infrastructure roadway projects.
A registered professional engineer (PE), Willis earned a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from the University of Kentucky.
ASSOCIATES
Paul Dorothy, Ph.D., PE, AICP, was elected an associate of the firm. Dorothy, who joined the firm in 1998, serves as Director of Operational Modeling and Geometrics for the Surface Transportation Group. He specializes in highway design and operations modeling, highway safety, traffic engineering and transportation planning.
A registered professional engineer (PE) and certified planner (AICP), Dorothy earned a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from The Ohio State University. He also earned a Master of Science and Ph.D. in Civil Engineering from Michigan State University.
Michael McCarthy, PE, AICP, was elected an associate of the firm. McCarthy, who joined Burgess & Niple in 2003, serves as Transportation Director of the firm’s Great Lakes Region. He is responsible for directing all transportation marketing, operations and production work in the region’s three offices in Akron, Cleveland and Painesville. He also oversees the region’s transportation staff.
A registered professional engineer (PE) and a certified planner (AICP), McCarthy earned a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from The Ohio State University and a Master of Business Administration from Baldwin Wallace College.
John Shanks, PE, was elected an associate of the firm. Shanks, who joined Burgess & Niple in 1990, serves as a project manager and lead designer in the Bridge Design Section. His experience includes work on highway, pedestrian and railroad structures. He holds a Level 3 Complex Bridge Design Prequalification from the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) and served as a preliminary and detail plan reviewer in B&N’s role as Design Review Consultant for ODOT.
A registered professional engineer (PE), Shanks earned a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from The Ohio State University.
Sinisa (Sacha) Sirovica, PE, was elected an associate of the firm. Sirovica, who joined Burgess & Niple in 1987, is responsible for international business development. His experience includes design, construction services, and project administration for waste management systems, hydroelectric and gas power plants, district heating, flood management, water supply and water distribution systems.
A registered professional engineer (PE), Sirovica earned a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from the University of Surrey, England, and a Master of Science in Civil Engineering from Michigan State University.
Joe Stodolak, PE, was elected an associate of the firm. Stodolak, who joined Burgess & Niple in 1988, serves as the Director of Transportation Design for the Great Lakes Region. His transportation experience includes the project management and design of local street, interstate, and infrastructure projects on state and local levels.
A registered professional engineer (PE) in Ohio, Pennsylvania and West Virginia, Stodolak earned a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from Youngstown State University.
Stephen L. Thieken, PE, PTOE, was elected an associate of the firm. Thieken, who joined Burgess & Niple in 1996, serves as a project manager and engineer for transportation design and planning projects. His project management and engineering experience includes traffic studies, community planning, access management, traffic signal system design, maintaining traffic during construction, geometric design and expert witness testimony.
A registered professional engineer (PE) and certified professional traffic operations engineer (PTOE), Thieken earned a Bachelor of Civil Engineering from the University of Dayton and a Master of Science from The Ohio State University.
Shane Whitacre, PE, was elected an associate of the firm. Whitacre, who joined Burgess & Niple, in 1991, serves as a project manager in the Construction Services Group. His experience includes structural inspections of bridges, stadiums, storage tanks, culverts, tunnels and sewers and construction inspection of wastewater treatment plants and training personnel in bridge climbing techniques.
A registered professional engineer, Shane earned a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from Ohio Northern University.
Mel Willis, was elected an associate of the firm. Willis, who joined Burgess & Niple in 1998, serves as District Director of Burgess & Niple’s Rockville, Maryland, office and manages civil engineering operations for public and private-sector projects throughout Maryland and the Metropolitan Washington, D.C. area. Willis has nearly 30 years of experience in site development and design for office parks, recreational and educational facilities, highway projects, institutional and government buildings, and subdivisions.
