Three B&N Projects Receive Engineering Excellence Awards

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC) of Ohio recently recognized three B&N projects with Engineering Excellence Awards.

High-Main Street Bridge – Outstanding Achievement Award
Recognized nationally for its innovative design, the High-Main Street Bridge over the Great Miami River was designed to replace a failing span that could no longer support the area’s growing population. The new structure is a five-span, spliced precast and post-tensioned concrete girder bridge that includes pedestrian walkways, bicycle paths, balconies on both sides and lighting at night. B&N’s design maintains historical and aesthetic features important to the community, while meeting essential functional requirements related to hydraulic performance.

US 33/SR 161/Post Road Interchange Modification Study – Outstanding Achievement Award
B&N was selected by the City of Dublin to address future roadway capacity needs at the interchange of US 33, SR 161 and Post Road – an area that will serve as a gateway to a 1,500-acre research, development, technical and medical campus called the Central Ohio Innovation Center. As part of the study, B&N provided planning and preliminary engineering design for a new, partial cloverleaf interchange which features two modern roundabouts. This project marks the first planned use of multiple roundabouts at a freeway interchange in Ohio.

Avery Road/Hayden Run Road Intersection – Honor Award
Rapid residential and commercial growth in northwest Franklin County established the need for upgrades to the intersection of Avery Road and Hayden Run Road. B&N conducted a preliminary engineering study and prepared environmental permitting documentation, detailed design plans, right-of-way plans, and construction documents for the $3.5-million improvement project. The site is expected to accommodate traffic volumes to the year 2025.
