Mission Efficiency

Efficiency and precision are critical to running a military unit. When military troops are mobilized for war or other national emergencies, every second counts. All details are carefully considered – even the path taken to collect equipment and exit the building.

B&N took this into account when designing the new 50,800-square-foot Williamstown Readiness Center for the West Virginia Army National Guard (WVARNG) at the Wood County, West Virginia, Airport.

Among the $9.7-million facility’s many attributes is the deployment area, which is designed to allow for the quick departure Williamstown’s five Guard units when they are called to duty. The area was designed so troops follow a straight line from the lockers and storage area out to the tarmac where the Black Hawk helicopters await departure.

In addition to allowing for the quick and efficient deployment of troops, the multi-functional building was designed with open public areas as well as secured spaces for the WVARNG. Public areas are used for conferences, distance learning and small banquets.

The secure areas include administration, equipment storage, training spaces and military parking spaces.

Members of B&N’s Parkersburg and Cincinnati offices teamed to complete the A/E design and construction documents for this project. Joe Brink, AIA, Cincinnati office, was the project manager.
