Team Takes on Two Major Military Design-Build Projects

The Messer Construction and B&N design-build team was recently awarded two major military design-build projects.

The $58 million Initial Entry Training (IET) Barracks Complex 1 at Fort Knox, Kentucky will consist of five 56,000 sq. ft. barracks buildings, one 22,000 sq. ft. Battalion Headquarters Building and a maintenance building. The barracks complex will house and feed 1,200 new recruits as they undergo Basic Combat Training. Don Arnold, RA, NCARB, will serve as project manager for the barracks complex. At Fort Knox, the team is in the process of completing the design for a $10 million, 41,000 sq. ft. Battalion Dining Facility associated with the new barracks complex.

The Messer Construction/B&N team also was awarded a $9.3 million design/build contract for a 38,000-square-foot dormitory at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base (WPAFB) in Dayton, Ohio. The three-story structure will house 108 enlisted personnel and will be comprised of two interconnected buildings, adjacent to the award-winning renovated dormitory complex also designed by B&N. The project will include a common building containing a common room, storage, mechanical equipment and space for the dormitory manager. Project manager for the WPAFB dormitory project is Joe Brink, AIA.
