Writing the Book on Consultant Design Reviews

The Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) and the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) selected Burgess & Niple to develop an instructional manual for the agencies’ Consultant Design Review program. The manual will be used as a guide for INDOT and other state departments of transportation.

B&N, teamed with Beam, Longest and Neff, L.L.C., has performed consultant design reviews for INDOT since 2002.

INDOT and the Federal Highway Administration developed the program to address Indiana’s growing annual construction program and shrinking internal workforce. Outsourcing the reviews of consultant-designed road and bridge projects to the B&N team frees up INDOT staff for internal projects.

The B&N team has been assigned all consultant design reviews in the eastern half of Indiana. To date, the team has reviewed more than 800 projects.
