Camp Lejeune

Since 1941, Camp Lejeune has grown from a converted tobacco barn and farmhouse into a 246-square-mile premier military training facility.

Located in Onslow County, North Carolina, the Marine Corps base is home to nearly 150,000 residents. The growth continues with the development of 161 new two-bedroom single and duplex townhouse units, complete with playgrounds and landscaping, at the Midway Park family housing area on base.

Burgess & Niple (B&N) is providing field surveys and site engineering services for the project. We are working with Harkins Builders, Inc., as civil consultant on the design-build team. B&N engineers enhanced the site grading design to utilize Midway Park’s single sanitary sewage pump station, eliminating the need for any additional pump stations to be constructed on-site.

B&N worked closely with the North Carolina Department of Environmental Resources to create a site design that met the state’s “low impact development” criteria of being sensitive to the preservation of the site’s significant forest stands. The design also provides better methods of meeting on-site water quality requirements for the new development.

The project is scheduled for completion in September 2005. Mel Willis, B&N Rockville office, is the project manager and Jose Lazo is the project engineer.
