Swapping chalkboards for plasma screen TVs, the traditional classroom has gone high-tech at Auburn Career Center’s Technology Learning Center.

From cutting edge student learning environments to comfortable corporate-style training areas – all wired with the latest technology – Auburn is redefining high-tech education for the next generation.

Completed in August 2003, the B&N-designed career tech center in Painesville, Ohio, is a local hub for technology-focused professional development. Among its many attributes, the 20,000-square-foot modern brick and glass structure features an open work environment, flexible classrooms, multimedia presentation center and corporate boardroom.

“The building design integrates our learning tools of curriculum, pedagogy and technology into a seamless environment,” Tom Schultz, Auburn Career Center Superintendent, said.

According to Schultz, the new TLC enables the local learning communities to better utilize their intellectual and creative talents.

“We are now able to champion change by creating opportunities for students, regional businesses and our educational partners.”

Due to its academic excellence, innovation and technology programs, Auburn Career Center is being used as a model for career and technology facilities across the country. The Center also received national recognition on Pat Summerall’s “Champions of Industry” which aired on the Discovery Channel last fall.

In addition to the design of the Auburn TLC, B&N was responsible for the building’s programming and construction administration, and currently is in the process of completing the master plan for the rest of the campus.
