The City of Dublin Crosswalk Evaluation and Prioritization Study is a data-driven initiative intended to address increasing pedestrian safety and mobility access concerns by systematically evaluating existing and proposed crosswalk locations and identifying improvements that reduce the risk of pedestrian crashes and serious injuries. The study serves as a data-driven first step toward implementing meaningful safety improvements by combining traffic volume, pedestrian and bicycle counts, speed and crash data with stakeholder walk audits to understand how each crossing functions today and where deficiencies exist. The project is designed to ensure that recommended treatments are context-sensitive, ADA-compliant and aligned with current best practices and guidance, while also reflecting local priorities and community needs.
The primary outcome of the study will be a clear, implementable roadmap for improving pedestrian crossings across Dublin. This includes a set of vetted short- and long-term crossing improvement recommendations for each study location, supported by conceptual designs, planning-level cost estimates and 3D visualizations to aid decision-making and public communication. In addition, the project will deliver a repeatable prioritization framework that allows the City to objectively rank projects and strategically phase improvements based on safety need, cost and funding potential.
