The 5th Street corridor is the main east-west arterial for the City of Marysville and serves as the eastern and western gateway into the uptown district. B&N’s team worked with the City to study the western and eastern segments to improve traffic flow, reduce vehicular speeds, address pedestrian safety, implement access management and re-envision the corridor with enhanced streetscape.
Traffic calming elements were studied throughout the corridor, including medians, curb extensions and intersection reconfigurations. Intersection alternatives included roundabouts, new signalized intersections based on signal warrant analysis and intersection reconfigurations. Sidewalk and SUP connectivity was assessed and proposed SUP improvements were identified to create a connected east-west route from one end of town through uptown Marysville and the other side of town. To address long stretches of sidewalk with no crossings, enhanced pedestrian crossings were identified with ladder striping and RRFBs. Project phasing and feasibility assessments, preliminary cost estimations and potential funding alternatives were explored.
With the ongoing growth and development in Marysville, re-envisioning this corridor will impact access to the heart of uptown and improve active transportation connections. From this plan, B&N designed resurfacing/re-striping and pedestrian improvement plans for the West 5th Street improvements. Corridor improvements include enhanced crosswalk striping and rectangular rapid flashing beacons, curb extensions and striped parking.
