B&N is working with the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), and others, to deliver Transportation Safety Planning (TSP) workshops in selected states. The workshop teaches the seven TSP Framework Principles to help State Departments of Transportation (DOT) planners and engineers, metropolitan planning organization (MPO) staff, and local jurisdiction to incorporate safety into their transportation planning process, including:
- Public & Stakeholder Engagement
- Multidisciplinary Coordination
- Goals & Objectives
- Data Collection & Analysis
- Performance Measures & Targets
- Project Prioritization
- Monitoring & Evaluation
During the workshop, attendees identify actionable steps to integrate the safety principles into their upcoming plans and projects. The workshop concludes with a report of the state’s safety challenges and specific opportunities to address them. Following the workshop, technical assistance is provided to ensure that the strategies identified are implemented.
