As part of the City of Mentor’s ongoing investment in accessible, high-quality public recreational facilities, Burgess & Niple was selected to provide full mechanical, electrical and plumbing (MEP) design services for a 5,000-square-foot restroom building replacement and pump building expansion at the Civic Center Waterpark.

The new restroom facility, strategically located adjacent to the community’s active pickleball courts, includes 10 restroom stalls and is fully compliant with ADA standards. MEP systems were designed to support long-term functionality and ease of maintenance, with a focus on durability and energy efficiency.

Key Features:

  • Precise heat load and ventilation calculations were performed to properly size all HVAC equipment, ensuring occupant comfort and optimal system performance.
  • General exhaust ventilation was integrated throughout the space to maintain indoor air quality.
  • Sanitary sewer and domestic hot/cold water routing were coordinated to support all fixtures and service needs.
  • A grease trap system was included to serve janitorial mop sinks, ensuring compliance with plumbing codes and minimizing maintenance issues.
  • Natural gas infrastructure was designed and routed to accommodate a future gas-fired unit heater.

The existing pump building was expanded to house upgraded systems and equipment, carefully modeled to work within the spatial constraints of the site. B&N’s approach leveraged precise modeling and multidisciplinary coordination to produce clear, construction-ready documents on an accelerated schedule.

This technically sound, code-compliant design elevates the user experience and meets the operational demands of modern municipal facilities.
