This workshop examines the challenges and opportunities associated with part-time shoulder use, also known as hard shoulder running, peak-period shoulder use and dynamic shoulder use. Participants will explore noteworthy practices for implementing shoulder use on freeways for general-purpose traffic, transit and managed lanes. Presentations and discussion will highlight operational considerations, design practices and lessons learned from implementation.
