The City of Phoenix Water Services Department selected B&N to evaluate the security conditions of 351 plants and remote sites while developing solutions that increase the system’s security. B&N updated the 2009 City of Phoenix Security Design Guidelines by defining the security “gold standard” for each type of facility and then conducted assessments to determine necessary improvements. Facility Assessment of Security Tool (FAST), B&N’s proprietary survey tool, created efficiencies in the field, reducing the anticipated schedule. B&N analyzed and compared the data to Security Design Guidelines to develop a Master Plan that remedies assessed security gaps within the next five years.

This project was awarded the 2022 ACEC Arizona “Best Project Under 2.5 million” as well as an “Honorable Mention” award.

How can our industry implement artificial intelligence (AI) into our operations? In a sewer collection system, AI makes condition assessment more efficient by increasing data accuracy and reducing the time spent collecting and evaluating data. AI will not replace the human element but rather supplement it by handling routine tasks to produce reliable data for critical decision-making. B&N has created a NASSCO PACP-compliant sewer AI that can be used in small- to moderately sized pipes of any material to identify defects successfully.
