In the 1950s, B&N designed the Hoover Dam and Reservoir, central Ohio’s largest source of drinking water, and the Smothers Road Bridge that spans it. Sixty years later, it was time for improvements and the Franklin County Engineer’s Office chose B&N to design the replacement and widening of the bridge superstructure and retrofits to the substructure. The specs included an improved safety design as well as a more durable and maintenance-friendly bridge. The bridge improvements were performed by Kokosing Construction Company in 2017. The $3.5 Million project is one of the State’s first to utilize the new Federal-State Exchange program.

This presentation will include all elements of the project process from design through construction from the perspectives of the owner, designer and contractor. Presenters include B&N’s Mike Killian, PE, Ed Herrick, PE from the Franklin County Engineer’s Office, and Kevin Gothberg from Kokosing Construction Company, Inc.
