Begin your career working with some of the top civil engineering experts in the industry. Burgess & Niple is looking for an Bridge Inspection Intern to join our team. This position can be filled in either Columbus, OH or Portland, OR.

B&N Bridge Inspection Intern Responsibilities:

  • Perform in-service inspections of bridges and other critical infrastructure around the U.S. and assist with ensuring the safety of the travelling public
  • Train and work side-by-side with rope access climbing experts to document and report bridge conditions using tablets and cameras
  • Learn and develop basic inspection skills according to the MBE (Manual for Bridge Evaluation) and the SNBI/NBIS (Specifications for the National Bridge Inventory/National Bridge Inspection Standards)
  • Perform data entry / data manipulation tasks for inspection mobilization and reporting

Skills and Qualifications:

  • You are a current junior or senior in good academic standing pursuing a degree in civil engineering (structural focus) at an ABET accredited college or university
  • Comfortable with heights; desire to climb large bridges/structures
  • Able to perform fieldwork for long durations and in inclement weather conditions
  • Capable of high levels of physical exertion including but not limited to walking on steep slopes, climbing, bending, carrying, and lifting up to 60 lbs. of equipment
  • A valid driver's license required
  • Excellent communication skills and detail oriented
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, and Adobe Acrobat required
  • Familiarity with Bentley MicroStation and Autodesk AutoCAD a plus
