B&N On the Job - Sustainability in Action

Award-Winning Project a Model of Efficiency and Energy Savings

The new North Fort Enlisted Personnel Dining Facility at Fort Lewis serves 1,300 soldiers in less than 90 minutes, three times a day. An efficient floor plan and sustainable features resulted in an award-winning design that is now the standard for future dining facilities.

The B&N team, which included Alutiiq International Solutions and Archer Western Contractors, designed an innovative, energy-efficient, high-performing facility at this U.S. Army Post near Seattle, Washington. Designed to LEED® Silver standards, specialized kitchen hood controls reduce energy consumption by 30 percent. Additional sustainable features include a water-efficient dishwashing system, food stations with low-mercury light fixtures and water-efficient landscaping.

The project received a Silver Design Excellence Award from the Seattle and Tacoma Posts of the Society of American Military Engineers.
