Crowded conditions at a site offering restricted expansion possibilities prompted the City of Willowick to retain B&N for recommendations for improvements to its fire station. The part-time staff of 70 firefighters and EMS personnel serves three daily shifts of six people, requiring a large amount of locker space for gear and personal items.
Various expansion options – single story, two story, connections to city hall, and even a separate new facility – were considered. It was recommended the existing building be partially demolished and replaced by a larger structure, which will include expanded office space, a training room, conference room, weight room, and dispatch area, in addition to adequate locker rooms and living space.
The estimated cost of improvements to the apparatus bays and construction of the 10,000 sf addition with partial basement is $2.8 million.
