Redeveloping brownfields, such as the Whittier Peninsula in Columbus, Ohio, revitalizes and re-energizes vacant or underutilized properties. A brownfield is a property that may be compromised by the presence of a hazardous substance, pollutant or contaminant.

In 2009, the project received a Clean Ohio Fund Impact Award from the Ohio Department of Development and an Honor Award from the American Council of Engineering Companies of Ohio. In 2010, the Grange Insurance Audubon Center – for which B&N designed the stormwater management system and assisted with design of the geothermal heating and cooling system – was certified as a LEED® Gold building by the U.S. Green Building Council.
