Burgess & Niple conducted this comprehensive development plan, encompassing agricultural and industrial development, residential settlement, and infrastructure required to meet future needs. Water quality control was a critical component of this water resources management project.
A thorough environmental profile of the river basin was conducted. Projected wastewater loads were developed based on proposed land uses.
B&N identified and recommended uses for the Caroni River and its tributaries, and proposed water quality standards. Using a simple river model in conjunction with sampling and waste load projections, degrees of treatment were determined for the proposed development, assuming various levels of water reuse.
As a result of this study, a broad, complex pollution abatement and control program directed towards waste minimization and waste reuse was developed.
