I-71 is the major north-south corridor linking Cleveland and Columbus, Ohio. On-going improvements have included the widening of sections of the route to six lanes to accommodate the ever-increasing traffic volume.
ODOT selected Burgess & Niple (B&N) for the survey and design of 9.3 miles of the interstate in Wayne and Medina counties. This heavily traveled section includes 2 interchanges and 26 bridges. B&N coordinated the aerial photogrammetry and provided field surveys to develop base planimetric mapping and digital terrain modeling.
Extensive coordination by B&N was required to compile the following elements into one base map:
The completed survey was prepared in Microstation/Geopak format utilizing ODOT’s CADD standards.
