A Type 1 Noise Study for a 12-mile section of I-270 from State Route 33 on the northwest corner to Dempsey Road on the northeast corner. The study involved updating the 1996 STAMINA model runs for a six-lane roadway to the new Traffic Noise Model (TNM) Version 1.0b and an eight-lane roadway configuration. The study required reevaluation of land use changes and additional field measurements for TNM verification. Base mapping was modified to indicate a new center concrete median barrier and placed in the model as a noise reflector. Wall barriers were also placed along the new bridges. These modifications allowed the future model runs to reflect the new roadway configuration.
Public involvement meetings were held with concerned residents and local community leaders to determine the community’s desire for noise walls and wall aesthetics on the traffic side of the wall. Residents (First row) were allowed to select the wall texture and color in accordance with the Ohio Department of Transportation Aesthetics Guideline. Thirteen walls were selected for implementation. This is the longest continuous noise study by miles ever conducted by ODOT.
