The Holden bridge is a part of one of the final stages of the Appalachian Highway, which extends from Williamson to Charleston, West Virginia. This 1,200 foot pretensioned and post-tensioned concrete bulb tee girder bridge serves as a relocation to U.S. 119. Designed by Burgess & Niple as the concrete bridge alternative, it was selected as the most cost-effective choice from a group of seven alternatives.
