Integration of Drones and Unmanned Aircraft Systems into Engineering and Construction Projects
The technology surrounding Unmanned Aircraft Systems (also known as UASs or Drones) is rapidly increasing in capabilities. Additionally, the Federal Aviation Administration is developing the rules under which the commercial use of UASs can be integrated into the National Airspace System. Many potential uses exist for UAS platforms on engineering and construction projects including surveying, site monitoring, remote sensing, and bridge and power line inspection.
This presentation will outline the current state of UAS related legislation, technology, performance specs, and an ongoing research project being conducted jointly by Burgess & Niple and Asymmetric Technologies on the viability and challenges of integrating UASs into the bridge inspection process.
The presenters are Mark Bernhardt, PE, B&N’s Director of Facility Inspection and Russ Metzler, Asymmetric Technologies’ Director of UAS Services.
