PARKERSBURG, West Virginia – The West Virginia Department of Transportation (WVDOT) Division of Highways presented Burgess & Niple (B&N) with a 2012 Engineering Excellence Award for the West Virginia Route 10 (WV 10) project in Logan, West Virginia. The award was received in the Large Roadway category.
WV 10 is a heavily traveled truck route that runs through mountainous terrain. B&N designed a 3-mile bypass around a severely deficient section of this roadway.
The project is being constructed in four phases. The WVDOT award recognizes the portion of B&N’s design that will be constructed in the third phase. This includes a 4-lane divided highway, retaining walls and two bridges.
The first phase of construction is complete and includes a bridge over the Guyandotte River which was also designed by B&N. Construction of the second phase is currently underway. The third phase is expected to begin in January 2013.
