Eyesore to Icon
Revitalization of an Ohio River Suspension Bridge
Tuesday, June 12, 8:30 a.m.
With limited funds and the potential closing of a key transportation link, community officials in West Virginia and Ohio sought a plan to extend the life of the deteriorating Market Street Bridge.
Working with the West Virginia Department of Transportation, Burgess & Niple designed a cost-effective solution to rehabilitate the century-old span. The design transformed the bridge from an eyesore into a community icon. It also enhanced safety, extended the bridge’s life and kept an important link to commerce in operation.
B&N’s Matt Lewellyn, PE will discuss how the project team leveraged its bridge inspection and design expertise to complete this project on a fast-track
A New Perspective on Skew
Practical Design Methods for Skewed Bridges
Wednesday, June 13, 8:30 a.m.
Skewed bridges are subject to torsional stresses and out-of-plane deflection not encountered in non-skewed structures. Neglecting these effects can create problems during erection and deficiencies in the finished structure.
Join B&N’s Travis Butz, PE to learn about skewed bridge behavior, analysis methods, and design and construction guidelines adopted by the Ohio Department of Transportation.
